A native of Norfolk, Susan was the daughter of Marie Ironmonger Bundy and the late Nathan Hollister Bundy, Jr. She attended The Country Day School and graduated from St. Margaret’s School in Tappahannock, Virginia. She then entered Sweetbriar College and graduated in 1973 with a BA in Government. Left to cherish her memory are her mother, her sister Marie Bundy Estabrook (Randy), brother-in-law Mark Estes, niece Brooke Estes (Frank), nephew Nathan Estes (Adri), and her dear cousins. Susan had a large network of extended family and close friends who will miss her terribly. Her father, Nathan H. Bundy, Jr., and her sister, Anne Estes preceded her in death. Susan was known for her boundless energy and willingness to support the organizations and causes that she respected. Even in difficult times, she maintained her optimism and courage, and she always looked on the bright side of every challenge. Susan was one tough woman who was devoted to friends and family. The friends she made in Charlottesville during her more than 35-year career in property and personnel management have remained close, a true testament to her love of her community. She enjoyed old Rock & Roll and Motown, was an exceptional gardener and avid volunteer and never turned away from any crossword puzzle, game, or sudoku that crossed her desk. She had a great appreciation of American history and was a member of the Colonial Dames of America, where from 2018-2022, she was Chair and Vice Chair of the Norfolk- Tidewater Committee. Her alma mater, Sweetbriar College, was very close to her heart. When the college was under financial duress, she reignited old friendships and rallied alumni to raise funding. She has remained active ever since. Susan also cared deeply about the Garden Club of Norfolk, where she was Conservation Chair and a member of the Board. The family will hold a private graveside service at Elmwood Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 12:00 pm Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Norfolk, VA. Online condolences may be shared with the family at www.hdoliver.com. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the organizations that Susan loved.
