Mr. B. had been suffering for some weeks with a complication of diseases and his death, although sudden, was not altogether unexpected. The deceased was a native of North Carolina but had been a resident of Norfolk for many years, and, by his upright demeanor, had won the esteem and respect of all who knew him. He was an exemplary Christian, having been, for more than thirty years, a member of the Cumberland Street Baptist Church, filling with great acceptability the office of deacon of his church for a period of twenty-five years. He leaves a devoted wife, one daughter and two sons to mourn his loss. His bereaved family have our sympathies in this their sad affliction. Of Mr. Burgess it may truthfully be said, “Mark the perfect man and behold the upright, for the end of that man is peace.” His funeral will take place from the Cumberland Street Baptist Church tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock.
