Norfolk - Thomas Burgess of 2715 Virginia Beach Blvd, the husband of Mrs. 
Angeline H. Burgess and a retired, self-employed contractor, died Sunday in a 
hospital.

Burgess, a native of Pawley’s Island, SC, was formerly employed at Norfolk Naval 
Shipyard.

He was a member of St. John AME Church and it’s Trustee Board, Usher Board, and 
class leader, and also treasurer of the Sunday School. He was a member of Adline 
Ward Eastern Star Chapter 197, and Herring of Jericho, and Rayfield Masonic 
Lodge.

Other survivors include a daughter, Ms. Elizabeth Burgess of Norfolk; a son, 
Larry L. Burgess of Washington; and nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be held Friday at noon at St. John AME Church by Pastor Walter C. 
Davis. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Graves Funeral Home in charge. 
The body will be in church Friday at 10 a.m. and the family will assemble at his 
home.
