Deacon Melvin D. Burgette Sr. Longtime minister of music at Morristown church 

Deacon Melvin D. Burgette Sr. of Dover, N.J., was born on January 31, 1940, to the
late Reverend W. Fletcher Burgette and Ceola Parker Burgette. 

Visitation for Melvin will be Friday, January 5, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services
will be on Saturday, Jan. 6, with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a
service at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, Morristown. Interment will be in
Norfolk, Va. 

Deacon Burgette grew up in Scranton, Pa., and was educated in the Lackawanna County
school system. He was married to Sandra Ampey Burgette for 51 years. He worked for
Komline-Sanderson Engineering Corporation in Peapack, N.J., for 30 years. After
retirement, he worked part-time for Madison Senior Center, Madison, N.J., for a
number of years. Melvin was the minister of music at Union Baptist Church in
Morristown, N.J., for over 50 years. He also played for Calvary Baptist Church in
East Orange, N.J., for over 25 years, and various other churches. He was the proud
father of one son, Melvin Burgette Jr. (Noa) and daughter, Krista Burgette, both of
Maryland, and had two grandchildren, Melvin III and Noa Alexandra.
