Norfolk Virginian Pilot April 6, 1946 

 Mrs. Margaret Dougherty Burlas, 75, wife of Louis N. Burlas and daughter of the 
late Thomas and Mrs. Kathryn Welch Dougherty, a native of Baltimore, Md. and a 
resident of this section for the past 53 years, died at the residence, 1907 
Llewellyn Avenue, Friday at 8:45 p.m.
Mrs. Burlas was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Surviving her are two daughters, Mrs. Emily McCourt, of Philadelphia, Pa. and 
Mrs. Thomas J. Hipple, of Norfolk; three sons, N.B. Burlas and L.J. Burlas, both 
of Norfolk and J.E. Burlas, of South Norfolk; 13 grandchildren; a great-
grandchild, 12 nieces and four nephews. 
The body was taken to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments.

 Mrs. Margaret Dougherty Burlas. Funeral services for Mrs. Burlas, wife of Louis 
N. Burlas, who died Friday night at the residence, 1907 Llewellyn Avenue, were 
held at 10 o’clock yesterday morning at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with the 
Rev. F. J. Klemmer officiating. Present in the sanctuary were the Rev. E. W. 
Johnston, the Rev. M. J. Harrison, the Rev. P. C. Blackburn, the Rev. L. L. 
Speight, the Rev. P. P. Brennan and the Rev. John Ryan. Burial was in St. Mary’s 
Cemetery. The pallbearers were L. A. Burlas, N. B. Burlas, Jr., L. T. Burlas, 
Jr., J. A. McCourt, T. J. Hipple, Jr., E. M. McCourt, Jr., F. J. McCourt and W. 
Leroy Sample.
