Born in Fairfield, N.C., he was retired from the city of Norfolk and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Burrus was a member of First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, the Usher Board and was predeceased by his wife, Annie L. Burrus. Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Harvey and Pilae Burrus of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Edna Riddick of Elizabeth City, Agnes Cooper of Norfolk and Sandra Gaylord and her husband, George, of Virginia Beach; five brothers, Enoch Burrus, Delmonte Burrus, Marshall Burrus and Franklin Burrus, all of Elizabeth City, and Roy Burrus of Spring Valley, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Annie Burrus, Marlene Burrus and Harvey Burrus Jr., all of Virginia Beach; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, by the Rev. Anthony Paige. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will be from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Carlos A. Howard Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. The family will assemble at 9 a.m. at the residence for the procession.
