A native of Norfolk, he was a son of Capt. Nathaniel and Mrs. Margaret Walters Dey Burruss and the husband of Mrs. Nell Oldfield Burruss. He attended Norfolk Academy and Virginia Military Institute, where he is a well- known football player. He was a lifelong member of Freemason Street Baptist Church. He retired from the real estate business three years ago and was formerly a vice president of Crockett and Collins Real Estate and Insurance Co. He was a former member of the Sons of the American Revolution and a member of Norfolk Yacht and Country Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Nell Burruss Burns of Atlanta and Mrs. Frances Burruss Hughes of Falls Church; and three grandchildren, Lytle DeWitt Burns III and Miss Nell Burruss Burns of Atlanta, and Peter John Hughes of Falls Church. The body was taken to H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, where a funeral service will be held Monday at noon by Dr. William L. Lumpkin. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
