Norfolk Virginian September 9, 1876
DEATH OF MISS SUSIE BURRUSS – It is with pain that we announce the death of this 
beautiful and interesting young lady, the daughter of Cicero Burruss, Esq., which 
occurred yesterday morning at 2:30 o’clock, from typhoid fever. Just in the bloom 
of youth, entering womanhood, loved by all who knew her, her death is mourned and 
lamented. She was the idol of the household, lovable in character and amiable in 
disposition. Our community deeply sympathize with the afflicted parent in the 
severe dispensation which an Allwise Providence has deemed fit to send him. The 
funeral will take place Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock from the First Presbyterian 
Church.
