A native of Norfolk, he was a student at Norfolk State College and also worked at the Norfolk Ford Assembly Plant. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, and formerly served on its Junior Male Usher Board. Other survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Ernestine Wilson and Mrs. Blanche Ray Burrus of New York and Sgt. Elaine Murrell of Massachusetts; and five brothers, Rudolph Lee Burwell of Chesapeake, Theodore Burwell of New York, James Ernest Burwell Jr. of Portland, Maine and Melvin A. Burwell and John R. Cook of Norfolk. A funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Baptist Church, Lamberts Point, by Dr. M.L. Williams. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Hale Funeral Home in charge.
