Burwell Sr. of the 1500 block of Pinegrove Lane died Dec. 1, 2001, in Manor House. A native of Norfolk, he was the widow of Rosa Mae Burwell and retired from Hampton Roads Transit after 39 years as a mechanic. Mr. Burwell was a member of Queen Street Baptist Church and a choir member. He is survived by two daughters, Ernestine Wilson of Long Island City and Blanche Burrus of Bronx, N.Y.; three sons, James Burwell Jr. of Portland, Maine, Theodore Burwell and wife Juanita Burwell, and Rudolph L. Burwell Sr. and wife Barbara A. Burwell; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predecease by sons, Melvin Burwell and Roy Burwell. A funeral will be held at noon Friday at Queen Street Baptist Church, the Rev. Dr. B. Peter Wherry, pastor. The Rev. Percell Whitaker will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery . The remains will be ready for viewing Thursday from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The family will assemble at 1501 Pinegrove Lane, Chesapeake, at 11 a.m. for the processional. Carlos A.
