He was buried Sunday in Mt. Olive Cemetery. A funeral service was held at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, with the Rev. C. S. Burke, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Beatrice Lawrence acknowledged the expressions of sympathy and read the family obituary. Grover Baker sang a solo. Wheeler Funeral Home handled the arrangements. Mr. Butler was a native of Portsmouth, son of the late Douglas and Mrs. Evelyn Butler. He served in the Army in World War II. He held membership in the Portsmouth Hunting Club and the Wild Rose Social and Beneficial Lodge. His survivors are his wife, Mrs. Esther Butler, one son, Eugene Coston; one daughter, Mrs. Evelyn Bagby both of Portsmouth; a sister, Mrs. Geraldine Jennings of Portsmouth, and one brother, Douglas Butler Jr. of Battle Creek MI.
