Mr. Butler was born in Norfolk and was employed at Colonna's Shipyard for 15 years. He was a former member of New Hope United Church of Christ, Norfolk. Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Butler; two daughters, Gwendolyn Lee and Vera Butler; and two sons, Nathaniel Butler Jr., and Nathan Butler, all of Norfolk; four sisters, Elizabeth Carrington and Sandra Wood, both of Virginia Beach, and Mildred Brown and Velma Lowery, both of Norfolk; three brothers, Theodore Butler of Norfolk, George Butler Jr. of Maryland and Chris Butler of Chesapeake; and seven grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Louise Bailey and George Butler. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Metropolitan Funeral Service by the Rev. L.R. Daughtry. The family will be at 1148 Holt St., Norfolk, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday for the funeral processional to the chapel.
