Norfolk Landmark September 14, 1881
The funeral of Mr. Henry Butt, Sr., whose sudden death on Monday evening was 
noticed in our last issue, took place yesterday afternoon at 3 o’clock from his 
late residence on Church street and was quite numerously attended, the police 
force, of which he was an ex-member, being well represented. The solemn funeral 
services were conducted by Rev. C. W. Pettit, who concluded with some appropriate 
and feeling remarks. The remains were then conveyed to the cemetery and consigned 
to the grave, this last sad rite being witnessed by a large assemblage of 
relatives and friends. The following gentlemen acted as pallbearers: Assistant 
Chief Emmett J. Mann, and Officer Wm. Frost, of the police force; John F. Evans, 
W. C. Brimmer, John Walters and Amos P. Jordan.
