He was born in South Norfolk on June 19, 1928 to the late James Tatem Butt (W4IUO) and Daisy Powell Butt (The Daisy Shop). Jimmie graduated from South Norfolk High School in 1946. He attended the Norfolk Division of V.P.I. (VA TECH) and received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1953 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech). He served his country in the United States Army during WWII in Japan with the First Cavalry Division. Jimmie was also the owner of the South Norfolk Hobby Shop. He retired after 37 years of service with the Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Engineering and Design Division. He was a member of Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church, The South Norfolk Masonic Lodge #339, Sons of the American Revolution, and a life member of the Nation Society of Professional Engineers and Virginia Society of Professional Engineers. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jacque Carson Butt; daughters, Lorraine Williams (Ron), Dorinda Trumbauer (Tom), and Peggy Gomez (AG); seven grandchildren, Emily, Ryan , Andrea, Thomas, Andrew, Tiffany and Jimmy; three step- grandchildren, Andre, Sean and Tony; and five great- grandchildren. A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, May 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest with military honors at Riverside Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6-7:30 p.m. The family request in lieu of flowers donations be made in his name to Chesapeake Avenue Preschool or a charity of your choice.
