Butt, an old and respectable citizen, suddenly died at his residence last night at 11 o’clock. For about twenty years, Mr. Butt had been in the employ of the Old Dominion Steamship Company, and was a faithful employee. For the last few years his health has not been good. He had a severe attack about twelve months ago at which time his life was thought to be in danger. He was at the wharf of the steamship company last night at 8 o’clock attending to his duties as usual. On his way home he talked with friends. After reaching his residence upon Chapel street he ate a hearty supper and went to bed, and at 11 o’clock was a corpse. He was fifty or fifty-five years of age, an old Confederate soldier, and a member of Pickett Buchanan Camp. He leaves a wife and several children. Notice of the funeral hereafter.
