The sad event occurred at his residence in Brambleton last evening at 9:45. Mr. Byrd was well and favorably known in this city. He has been in delicate health for the past six months and since the accidental death of his only son, who was killed by a street car on the second of May last, he has been rapidly failing in health. His nervous system in sympathy with his mental distress added to the terrible grief of a spinal disease which had fastened itself upon him, culminated in his death at the hour above stated. He leaves an affectionate and distressed wife and four little children, all girls, together with a host of friends to mourn his loss. "May the sods rest lightly o'er his grave." His funeral will take place from his late residence in Brambleton on tomorrow, Monday, at 4 p.m. ************************************************************************ The obsequies of the late Richard W. Byrd, whose death was announced in our last issue, took place yesterday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the residence of the deceased in Brambleton and was attended by a large number of the friends of the departed gentleman and his bereaved family. The Rev. Calvin S. Blackwell delivered a few appropriate remarks and...........(print missing).............. At the conclusion of the impressive services, the remains were conducted to Elmwood Cemetery and interred with the usual solemn rites, the following gentlemen acting as pallbearers: B.P. Loyall, F.M. Hyman, C. Billups, W.H. Broughton, David Corprew, Chas. Tyler, John S. Tucker, Wm. S. Wilkinson. The services at the grave were witnessed by a number of sorrowing acquaintances of the family who beheld the burial with that sadness which the departure of a good man ever awakens in the breasts of appreciative friends.
