Byrd, a Washington resident 20 years and the widow of Richard Walke Byrd of Norfolk, a foreign service officer for many years, died Monday in her home. She was the former Countess Daria Nieroth and a member of the Cantacuzene family. She was born in St. Petersburg, now Leningrad, Russia. She and her parents were evacuated from Russia on an English warship during the Bolshevik Revolution. They eventually reached France, the home of Mrs. Byrd’s maternal grandparents, who had left Paris for Russia during the French Revolution. The couple met in Canada, were married in Calcutta, and served in many posts around the world until Byrd’s retirement in 1959. He died in Washington in 1975. She had been active in Russian Orthodox Church affairs. Survivors include a nephew and a niece living in Paris and cousins in this country. A memorial service will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Church of St. Nicholas on Massachusetts Avenue. The body will be sent to H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk, for a graveside service Friday at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery by the Rev. A. Heath Light.
