Byrd, 99, passed away April 9, 2000. She was born on Feb. 26, 1901, to the late Weldon and Pauline Reeves and lived most of her life in Norfolk. She became active in her church and community and was admired and loved by all whose lives she touched. She was often referred to as ``Auntie,'' ``Young Old Lady,'' and ``Aunt Mamie.'' Her thoughts were always of others, supporting them in spirit, faith and actions. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Saunders Parrish of Norfolk; a son, William E. Saunders of District Heights, Md.; a godson, Theodore E. White of Clinton, Md.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Grace Episcopal Church, Norfolk, by the Right Rev. Richard B. Martin. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery . Viewing will begin today at Graves Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Thursday.
