"Roach" Byrd of 1037 Mariner Ave., a native of Norfolk and the husband of Pearl Bell Byrd, died Saturday in Medicenter of Virginia Beach. He was a maintenance worker at St. Paul's Church and was a member of the Four Dukes, Keys of Harmony and Gospel Vocalairs, all of Norfolk. Other survivors include four daughters, Patricia A, Byrd, Jacqueline C. Byrd, Mary T. Byrd and Pearl C. Byrd, all of Norfolk; two sons, Charles L. Byrd Jr. of Chesapeake and William L, Byrd of Philadelphia; a sister, Elsie M. Hardy of Norfolk; two brothers, William Byrd of Norfolk and Edward Byrd of Hartford, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Magnolia Cemetery by the Rev. Frank Paschall. E.A. Hughes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
