James Joseph Byrne, aged 83, husband of Mrs. Frances Murphy Byrne and son of 
Richard and Mrs. Bridget Power Byrne, a native of Waterford, Ireland, and a 
resident of Norfolk for the past 13 years, died at 2:15 o’clock yesterday morning 
at the residence, 820 Maury Place. Mr. Byrne was a charter member of Council No. 
418, Knights of Columbus, Portsmouth, and a member of the Holy Name Society of 
Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Norfolk. Besides his wife, he is survived by three 
daughters, Mrs. Mary B. O'Brien, Mrs. C. R. Wheat and Miss Catherine M. Bvrne, of 
Norfolk; one son, the Rev. Francis J. Byrne, S.T.D., Diocesan superintendent of 
schools, Richmond; 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces 
and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church tomorrow morning at 
10 o’clock. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. Rosary services will be held 
at the residence tonight at 8:15 o'clock.
