Mr. Cahill a Worcester, Mass. native was a retired aeronautical engineer, a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He served in the South Pacific as assistant aeronautical engineering officer of the assembly and repair department on the island of Tinian. In 1971 he retired as head aeronautical engineer at Norfolk Air Rework Facility. He was rewarded for the design of a special sling for B-5 aircraft. He was a member of the Naval Air Station Preservation Board and Board of Civil Services Examiners for Engineers. He was a volunteer registrar with the American Red Cross. Survivors include his wife Grace Dalton Cahill, two daughters Anne Taylor Cahill of Norfolk and Kirby Cahill Womble of Virginia Beach; three sons A.J. Dalton Cahill, Allan D.D. Cahill, and John James Cahill II all of Norfolk; three sisters Alice M. Cahill of Brighton, Mass., Catherine Cahill Day of Mt. View, Calif., and Mary Cahill Harvey of Worcester, Mass., a brother James C. Cahill of Auburn, Mass.; and two grandchildren. A private memorial Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Catholic Church by the Rev. James Gordon. Burial will be at sea with full military honors. Memorial donations should be made to your favorite charity. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk is handling arrangements.
