Martin Owen Cahill, U. S. A., member of a prominent Norfolk family and a resident of this city for a number of years, died yesterday morning at 10:15 o'clock in Portland, Me., after a week's illness from pneumonia. Captain Cahill was reared in Norfolk and attended Maury High School, where he was active in athletics, playing on the school baseball team. He entered the Army at the entry of the United States in the World War in 1917, and remained in the service after the war ended. He saw service in Alaska and Hawaii, and at a number of posts in the United States, being on duty at Fort Williams, in Maine, when he was taken ill. A son of John Cahill and the late Mrs. Mary Mitchell Cahill, Captain Cahill is survived by his wife, Mrs. Loretta Burke Cahill; his father; one son, Martin Owen Cahill, Jr.; two brothers, Edward H. Cahill, of Los Angeles, and John C. Cahill, Jr., of Norfolk; four sisters, Mrs. Hugh C. Preston, of Washington, Mrs. Harold Wright, of Norfolk, and Misses Katherine and Mary Cahill of Norfolk; a nephew, Hugh Caperton Preston, 3d, and two nieces, Barbara and Joan Wright, all of Norfolk. Funeral arrangements for Captain Cahill had not been completed at a late hour last night. DEATHS CAHILL, CAPT. MARTIN OWEN, U. S. A. - At Portland, Me., Wednesday, Nov. 30th, 1938, at 10:15 o'clock a.m., Capt. Martin Owen Cahill, U. S. A., husband of Mrs. Loretta Burke Cahill, and son of John and the late Mrs. Mary Mitchell Cahill. Remains will be taken from the residence, No. 418 Pembroke Avenue, Norfolk, Va., to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for funeral services Saturday morning at 10 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.
