Virginian-Pilot, The (Norfolk, VA) - Tuesday, November 14, 2006 
NORFOLK - The Rev. Ashley Caine , 84, of the 1100 block of Rugby St., departed 
this life Nov. 9, 2006, at Autumn Care nursing facility in Norfolk. He was a 
native of Scotland Neck, N.C., where he attended public school. He was a veteran 
of World War II, where he served in the Army as a sergeant. He was the widower 
of Doris R. Caine . He was a mechanic for Bond Bakery in the 60s. He was also a 
mechanic for Colonial Store Bakery. In 1971, he joined the International 
Longshoreman Association Local 1458, where he was a freight handler until his 
retirement in 1988. He was a member of New Covenant Baptist Fellowship, the 
Tidewater Metro Baptist Ministers' Conference and the Cottage Height Barraud 
Park Civic League. He graduated in 1983 from the Jones Institute, which is an 
extension of Virginia Union School of Theology. He also attended carpeting, air 
conditioning and refrigeration school in Table Grove, Ill.

He leaves to cherish his memory two loving daughters, Margaret D. Taylor of 
Patterson, N.J. and Elaine B. Simmons of Norfolk; three sisters, Edna L. Caine , 
Elgia M. Jones and Lillian Daniels, all of Norfolk; five grandchildren and five 
great-grandchildren; a special granddaughter and her husband, Florine and 
Abraham Yahannason of Norfolk; and a special friend, Rosa Stephens of 
Chesapeake. Four brothers predeceased him.

A homegoing service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Graves Funeral Home 
chapel. Bishop E.W. Woodbury will be officiating. Burial will be in Calvary 
Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at 1112 Rugby St., Norfolk.
