Caler Intelligence has been received in Norfolk of the death at Pen Mar, MD, at 6:30 o’clock yesterday morning of Mr. Chester T. Caler, of this city, who left here five weeks ago with the hope that the change of climate would be beneficial to his health. His wife and two children and his sister, Miss Amelia Caler, were with him during his last hours on earth to soothe his dying pillow. The deceased was born in Ulster county, NY, and was in the 41st year of his age. He had been a resident of Norfolk about eighteen years, and was highly esteemed. Besides relatives already named, he leaves a father, Mr. James Caler, and a sister, Mrs. Rufus Allard, both of Norfolk, and a brother, Mr. Charles Caler, of Baltimore. He led a very active business life, being a partner in the firm of James Caler & Son, dredgers and contractors. He was a member of the Masonic fraternity, the Royal Arcanum and the National Union. He was a consestent member of Queen Street M. E. Church and an active participant in all of its entrprises, being one of its Board of Stewards. He carried an insurance on his life of $25,000. The remains will arrive here this morning on the New Bay Line steamer and will be conveyed to his home on the corner of Hamilton and Moran avenues, Ghent. The funeral arrangements will be announced later.
