She was born in Lima, Ohio, on April 3, 1931, to the late Kenton L. Murray and Veronica McGonagle Murray. She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 60 years, William Walsh (Bill) Callahan, and her devoted daughter, Theresa Callahan Donahoe. Ellen is survived by one sister, Veronica Anne Murray, of Virginia Beach, and two brothers Kenton L. Murray, Jr., of Norfolk, and Richard Tyler Murray, and his wife, Jeanne, of Newark, Delaware. Ellen attended Holy Trinity School in Norfolk from first grade through twelfth, graduating in 1949. She was a long time member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, and most recently St. Stephen Martyr in Chesapeake. Ellen will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She had a passion for bridge and enjoyed teaching her many grandchildren how to play cards. Her love of bridge began as a young adult and continued throughout her life, forming many lifelong friendships. She loved her daily crossword puzzles, water aerobics, computer games, cooking and was known for her amazing fudge. She also hand knitted Christmas stockings for her entire family and numerous others. She was a woman of strong faith who felt her family was the greatest achievement of her life. Left to cherish her memory are her 6 daughters, Kathleen C. Alberts, and her husband, Dave, of Virginia Beach, Mary C. Mani, and her husband, Frank, Susan C. Brittan, and her husband, Buddy, and Jean C. Lamay, and her husband, Ken, all of Chesapeake, Margie C. Keller, and her husband, Jim, of Fredericksburg, and Beth C. Berghers, and her husband, Brandt, of North Potomac, MD, and her two sons, Patrick M. Callahan, and his wife, Kim, of Norfolk, and William W. Callahan, Jr., and his wife, Dana, of Virginia Beach, as well as her son-in-law, Stephen D. Donahoe, of Virginia Beach. "Mima" leaves 27 grandchildren; David, Amy, Megan, Jason, Jeff, Mary, Katie, Lee, Emily, Tracy, Daniel, Laura, Stefanie, Grace, Ellen, Katherine, Matt, Franko, Sarah, Patrick, Maggie, Elizabeth, Veronica, James, Will, Ben and Caroline Rose, as well as 22 great grandchildren, whose birthdays she knew by heart and remembered without fail. The Funeral Mass will be held in Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, at 11:00 AM. The Reverend Father W. Dan Beeman and the Reverend Father Brian Rafferty will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Christian Wake Service will be held in the church Tuesday evening at 6:30 PM.
