He was the beloved youngest child of Sully and Lauren Callahan. Born and reared in Norfolk, Joey was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jack and Ann Marie Callahan and Dorothy B. Callahan. A Roman Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Joey was a warm, hospitable young man who was loved by all. Joey graduated from Maury High School in 2010, where he played viola for the orchestra and was a talented athlete for the Commodores. He earned a total of 12 varsity letters in volleyball, swimming and soccer. He spent his summers at the Mallory Country Club in West Ghent, where he was on the Dolphins swim team and played volleyball. He attended Old Dominion University. Joey's grieving family, for whom he was a source of pride and delight, includes his parents in Norfolk, his sisters, Colleen Elizabeth Callahan of Jacksonville, Florida, and Claire Cathleen Callahan, of New York City, and his brothers, F. Sullivan Callahan, Jr., of Washington, DC, and Vincent Thomas Callahan, of Norfolk. He is also survived by his maternal grandfather, Vincent Francis Callahan, Jr., of Alexandria, VA., and many aunts, uncles and cousins. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Friday, August 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM with the Reverend James P. Curran and the Reverend John J. Dorgan officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The Christian Wake service will be held in the church, Thursday evening at 7:00 followed by a visitation with the family.
