She had become a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church fifty years ago. Although her eyes were sightless, and no sound for many years could reach her once "susceptible ear," she was never heard to murmur, or complain, but enjoyed the full possession of her mental powers to the very last. She looked on death as having two sides or aspects, the one looking towards the present, and the other towards the future, and though the key of death is turned by HIM, at Whose girdle it hangs, it unlocks the door of the cell in which the prisoner has been confined during life, but for the purpose of opening the way to the tribunal of her God. When she thought that the functions of life which connected her with the living world were becoming more feeble, and all the senses and vital organs were about to be sealed up, with sweet composure of spirit, and safety in death, she seemed to say, "Friends, farewell; I am about to sleep in the arms of my Jesus. This pious woman hath finished now her race, The willing spirit has resigned its load; The goal of glory she has reached in peace, "The bosom of her father and her God."
