Mr. Camp was a native of Norfolk but had lived in Richmond for several years past. His death was somewhat expected, as he has been in ill health for years. He had arrived at a ripe old age, having nearly reached the Psalmist’s allotted span, three-score years and ten. During his long and busy life, he held many positions of trust in this community, and all who knew him will attest to his sterling character and fine business capacity. Mr. Camp read law in his youth and was, for a while, a member of the Norfolk bar. But he relinquished his practice to hold a position as United States Customs officer. His Record, however, as a businessman, was made by his successful career as a bank officer, he, having been teller of the Virginia Bank and cashier of the Exchange Bank of Virginia, in Norfolk, the mother bank, as it were, of the State. He was a public-spirited citizen, always taking an active part in our municipal affairs, and frequently being elected to the councils. Socially, he was a delightful companion, his bright mind and pleasing manners making him especially entertaining. His loss will be keenly felt by a large circle of relatives and friends. To those especially bereaved, we tender our sincere sympathy.
