NORFOLK — The Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Joseph Cannon, 80, pastor emeritus of Holy 
Trinity Catholic Church and an active priest for 57 years, died Sunday in a 
Norfolk hospital.

Since his retirement in 1967, after 16 years at Holy Trinity Church, he had lived 
in the Church Rectory.

Born in Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland, he entered St. Patrick's College, Carlow, 
Ireland, Oct. 14, 1914.  He was ordained as a priest in Ireland on June 8, 1920, 
and came to the Richmond Diocese the same year.

He became pastor of Holy Trinity Church March 1, 1955 and retired June 30, 1967. 
He celebrated his golden jubilee in the priesthood on June 8, 1970.

Survivors include a brother and a sister in Ireland.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated tonight at 8 in Holy Trinity Church 
by Bishop Walter Sullivan of the Richmond Diocese. Burial will be Wednesday at 9 
a.m. in St. Mary’s Cemetery, with H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments in charge.
