Caprio Sr., 96, of the 9500 block of Wells Parkway, died December 28, 1996, in DePaul Hospital. Mr. Caprio was a native of Portsmouth and retired from the Bureau of Alcohol Beverage Control for the State of Virginia in 1967. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Norfolk, where he served as an usher for many years. He had been a former jazz band leader in the 1920's. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve L. Caprio; two sons, Capt. Michael R. Caprio Jr. of La Mesa, Ca., Dr. John T. Caprio of Baton Rouge, La.; three sisters, Louise Harrington of Tavales, Fla., Virginia Leinenbach and Thelma Snyder, both of Portsmouth; five grandchildren, Laura Caprio Dwyer, Michael R. Caprio III, Emma- Lee Prince Caprio, Ellen Marie Caprio, Matthew Caprio, and three great- grandchildren. A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church at 7 p.m. Thursday by Father Lou Ruoff. A prayer service will be held Friday morning at 10 a.m. followed by the burial at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 p.m. until the beginning of the service Thursday. Memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Norfolk. H.D.
