Norfolk Ledger Dispatch, June 21, 1939

Mrs. Elizabeth Carey - Funeral arrangements are being completed today for Mrs. 
Elizabeth Carey, of 314 Westover Avenue, who was found dead of asphyxiation 
yesterday morning in her gas filled apartment.
As related in the Ledger Dispatch yesterday, Mrs. Carey was found in her sitting 
room with gas flowing from jets on a gas stove in an adjoining kitchen. An 
inhalator was used for 40 minutes along with artificial respiration by Deputy 
Fire Chief C.W. Moore, assisted by other members of the department, but to no 
avail.
Dr. C.D.J. MacDonald, city coroner, viewed the body and said no inquest would be 
held. The body was removed to the H.D. Oliver Funeral Home.

MRS. ELIZABETH OWENS CAREY - Funeral services for Mrs. Carey, whose death 
occurred Tuesday at the residence, 314 Westover Avenue, will be held at the 
chapel of the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, Saturday 
afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

June 20th, 1939, at 2 o'clock a.m. ELIZABETH OWENS, wife of Frank Carey, aged 33 
years. Services at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, No. 1501 
Colonial Avenue, THIS (Saturday) AFTERNOON at 2 o'clock. Friends of the family 
are invited to attend. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery.

Mrs. Elizabeth Owens Carey - Funeral services for Mrs. Carey, wife of Frank 
Carey, whose death occurred Tuesday at the residence, 314 Westover Avenue, were 
held at the chapel of the H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1501 Colonial Avenue, 
this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Paul V. Heller, of Sacred Heart 
Catholic Church, officiating. There were a number of floral offerings. 
Undertakers assistants served as pallbearers. Interment was in St. Mary's 
Cemetery.
