She came to Norfolk from Sutton Coffer, Warwick County, England, about 60 years ago, and lived in this city and Virginia Beach. On arriving here, she took up nu nursing at the old Retreat for the Sick, now the Norfolk General Hospital, and la later was for many years a public heath nurse. She nursed patients in Norfolk ho homes on call long before that duty became an organized public service. Mrs. Carless was the widow of Joseph B. Carless and the daughter of John and M Mrs. Isabelle Palmer. A member of the Church of England, she attended Christ a and St. Luke's Episcopal Church, in Norfolk. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Russell Simmons; two grandchildren, Mrs. Kerry Crockett and Miss Jane Simmons; and one great-granddaughter, Jo Ann Crockett, a all of Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be conducted at the H. D. Oliver Funeral Apartments tomorrow at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Taylor Willis, D. D., rector of Christ and St. Luke's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
