Mr. Carlisle, a Norfolk native, had retired from the Navy after 20 years. He was a member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 367 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4809. Survivors include his wife, Marie Davis Carlisle; two daughters, Jean C. Daniel, of Suffolk, and Stewart M. Carlisle, of Charlottesville; two sons, Philip S. Carlisle, III, and John S. Carlisle, both of Virginia Beach; five sisters, Laura C. Swafford, of Richmond, Joan C. Hornsey, of Chesapeake, Carolyn C. Walker, of Virginia Beach, Patricia C. Rowe, of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Mary C. Mohrman, of San Diego, Calif.; a brother, Thomas E. Carlisle, of Norfolk; and a grandchild. A Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be at 7 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
