Carmine died yesterday morning at 8:15 o'clock at the residence of his son, M.E. Carmine, 1836 West Thirty-ninth street, in his seventy-eighth year. Mr. Carmine was a Confederate veteran, and was a member of the crew of the Merrimac at the time of the famous battle of the Monitor and the Merrimac in Hampton Roads. He was well known and highly esteemed. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Susan Albert of Cambridge, Md.; two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Wood of Berkley and Mrs. Tennie Smitherson of North Carolina and by two sons, M.E. Carmine of Norfolk and Charlie Carmine of Elizabeth City, N.C. The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2 o'clock at Old Zion Christian Church and will be conducted by Rev. W.H. Carman, assisted by Rev. Mr. Hill of Burrow Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will be in Magnolia Cemetery, Berkley.
