Mr. Carpenter, a native of Charles County, Md., had retired after 35 years with the U.S. Customs Service. Mrs. Carpenter was a native of Norfolk. They were members of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. They are survived by a daughter, Mary C. Allen of Silver Spring, Md., and two grandchildren. Mr. Carpenter is survived by a sister, Hannah Greer of La Plata, Md. A Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by the Rev. Thomas Nee. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. A Christian wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, Norfolk. Memorial donations to honor Mr. Carpenter may be made to the Cardinal Cooke Guild, 1011 First Ave., New York, N.Y. 10022. Contributions in the memory of Mrs. Carpenter may be sent to the DePaul Hospital Building Fund, 150 Kingsley Lane, Norfolk, Va. 23505.
