He was a native of Norfolk and the husband of Mrs. Mae Manson Carr. He lived here 20 years. He was an electrical engineer with Bell Laboratories until his retirement in 1958. He received a bachelor’s degree in 1919 and his master’s degree from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1920. He was a member of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Other survivors include a son, James A. Carr Jr. of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. John Freeman of Houston, Tex.; eight grandchildren; and three great- grandchildren. A funeral will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Norfolk, by the Rev. Eugene Woolridge of Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Maestas Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
