Carreiro, a true gentlemen, family man and friend, passed away Oct. 23, 2008, at the age of 92. Ed was the son of the late Elvira Sousa and John Botelho Carreiro, and was the widower of Louise and Thelma Carreiro. Ed was also predeceased by his brother, Rudy Carreiro. Ed grew up in Tiverton, R.I., where he pursued his passion for sailing. Ed was a great sailor and passed the love of the water on to his children. He migrated to Norfolk with his first wife, Louise and their three children. Ed became very well respected in the field of dental prosthetics, assisting many dentists for numerous years. Ed is survived by his wife, Moyra Hendrick Carreiro; his children, Thomas, and wife, Mary Beth, Roger, and wife, Marcie, and daughter, Carolyn Pollack, and her husband, Harold; his adoring grandchildren, Michelle Rivers, whom he lovingly called Termite, and her husband, Mike, Christina Carreiro and Jerry Pollack; great-grandchildren, Logan and Alex Edward Rivers; a brother, Norman, and wife, Connie. Ed's stepchildren were all a vital part of his life and he brought great joy into their lives, Suzanne, Marie, Sharon and Moyra Lee. Ed is also survived by stepgrandchildren, Stephanie, Jarrett and Derek; and many stepgreat-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and lifelong Tiverton friends, Richard and Arlene Toolin. Ed was a wonderful human being and a joy to be around. He and his stories will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday in the chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, by the Rev. Dr. Richard Grice. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice.
