Norfolk Virginian. September 14, 1870
FIREMAN'S FUNERAL - The members of the United Fire Company, Captain Kimberly, were 
out pursuant to a call yesterday afternoon, in order to pay the last sad tribute 
of respect for their departed comrade, Richard U. Carstarphen, whose untimely 
death we have before noticed.  The services were conducted according to the solemn 
ritual of the Catholic church, the Rev. Father Matthew O'Keefe presiding.  The 
remains of the deceased were then conveyed to the Catholic burying ground, outside 
of the city limits, the distance being so great that the firemen, in a body, did 
not proceed to the grounds.
