Virginian Pilot and Norfolk Landmark June 27, 1917
Mrs. Amanda M. Carter, wife of Richard W. Carter, died at the residence of her 
son-in-law, J.M. Commander, 1913 Llewellyn avenue yesterday afternoon at 1 
o'clock, in the eightieth year of her age.  She was a native of Norfolk and was 
well known throughout the community.  She is survived by her husband, three sons, 
Walter L., R.D. and George M. Carter; two daughters, Mrs. J.M. Commander and Mrs. 
James E. Lambert; 32 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will take place at the residence Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock, 
Rev. Sparks W. Melton officiating.  Interment in Elmwood.
