NORFOLK — Mrs. May Meixel Carter, 74, of 1332 Gabriel Drive died in a hospital 
Monday at 6 am.

A native of Knoxville, Tenn., she has lived here 65 years. She was a daughter of 
Charles and Mrs. Mary Meixel and the widow of John LeRoy Carter.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Clyde W. Pollard and Mrs. Darrold F. Bryant of 
Norfolk: five half-sisters, Mrs. Rose Blackstone and Mrs. Margaret Christe of 
Norfolk, Mrs. Emma Warren of Chesapeake, Mrs. Elizabeth Pipes of Lemon Grove, 
Calif., and Mrs. Antoinette Leidel of Oxnard, Calif.; a brother, Herman Meixel of 
Jacksonville, Fla.; two half-brothers, Carl Meixel of Portsmouth and Walter Meixel 
of Virginia Beach; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted in Smith & Williams Funeral Home Wednesday at 
11 a.m. Burial will be in St Mary’s Cemetery.

The family will be at 1345 Gabriel Drive.
