In addition to his service on the Virginian Cap'n Bob worked on four other newspapers, the Ledger, the Landmark, the Dispatch and the Ledger-Dispatch. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church; the Holy Name Society of that church and a member of the Norfolk-Portsmouth Typographical Union. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. John H. Scott, of Franklin; Mrs. J. Anthony Butt and Miss Louise Carty, both of Norfolk; three sons, Robert B. Carty, of Huntington, W. Va.; William I. Carty, of Bristol, Conn. and the Rev.
