Mr. Carty was 71 years old. He was born in Ireland, but has been a resident of Norfolk for fifty-five years. He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W.J. Butt, Miss Agnes and Grace Carty; two sons, Messrs. Joseph J. and Lawrence F. Carty, all of Norfolk and one sister, Miss Sarah Carty, of New York. Mr. Carty was a member of the Emerald Beneficial Association of Norfolk, a delegation from which will attend the funeral, which will take place from St. Mary's Catholic Church Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. *********************************************************************** The funeral of the late John Carty was held from St. Mary’s Catholic Church at 10 o’clock a.m. yesterday and was largely attended. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father John Doherty, at the conclusion of which he paid an eloquent tribute to the life and character of the deceased. During the obsequies Mrs. James Hughes sang as a solo “Lead Kindly Light.” Rev. Father J. A. Kelliher, of Norfolk, and Rev. Father Kelly, of Kentucky, attended the services. There was a magnificent display of floral tributes, among them a large and handsome cross sent by the city fire department which covered the casket; also a beautiful standing harp from the Emerald Beneficial Association. The remains were laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: John R. Coleman, James O'Rouke, S. C. Phillips, James W. Long, Charles Davies, John F. Lawler, Thomas S. Fitzgibbon and Robert F. Lawler.
