Requiem Mass was celebrated by Rev. Father John Doherty, at the conclusion of which he paid an eloquent tribute to the life and character of the deceased. During the obsequies Mrs. James Hughes sang as a solo “Lead Kindly Light.” Rev. Father J. A. Kelliher, of Norfolk, and Rev. Father Kelly, of Kentucky, attended the services. There was a magnificent display of floral tributes, among them a large and handsome cross sent by the city fire department which covered the casket; also a beautiful standing harp from the Emerald Beneficial Association. The remains were laid to rest in St. Mary’s cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: John R. Coleman, James O'Rouke, S. C. Phillips, James W. Long, Charles Davies, John F. Lawler, Thomas S. Fitzgibbon and Robert F. Lawler.
