CASHIN DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Well Known Citizen Prominent in the Government of Norfolk After a week's illness, culminating in hemorrhage of the stomach, John W. Cashin, forty-six years old, a member of the Board of Aldermen, died on Sunday morning at the residence of his father, Martin Cashin, 461 Church Street. Mr. Cashin had been sick only a week and many of his friends did not know of it at all. News of his death came to them, therefore, as a severe shock. Mr. Cashin was a native of Norfolk. He was widely known here. He was a member of the city council and held important positions on three council committees, the Ordinance, Public Improvement and City Hall committees. He is survived by a daughter, Miss Mamie Cashin, his father, Martin Cashin and two sisters, Misses Mary and Maggie Cashin. Mr. Cashin had membership in the Hibernians and the Elks. These organizations will attend the funeral this morning at 10 o'clock from St. Mary's Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Out of respect to Mr. Cashin as a city official an escort of honor from the police department will attend the obsequies. Major Kizer instructed Captain Cuthriel of the Second Precinct station yesterday afternoon to detail a squad to attend the funeral. ***************** POLICEMAN PAY TRIBUTE TO ALDERMAN J.W. CASHIN Handsome Floral Cross To Be Placed on Bier - Friend of Policemen As a tribute of esteem which the members of the police department bore Alderman J.W. Cashin, a handsome floral design will be laid upon the grave today when the body is laid to rest. The tribute was given by all the members of the departments. The arm of the cross is entwined with flowers, spelling the words "Rest in Peace." Mr. Cashin has for years been a loyal friend of policemen and the members of the department feel his death keenly and as one man voted to lay upon the bier of their friend a token of love and esteem.
