IMPRESSIVE FUNERAL OF ALDERMAN CASHIN

Beautiful Floral Tributes From Civic
 and City Organizations.

Attended by a large number of sorrowing friends and relatives, the funeral of 
Aiderman John W. Cashin, who died Sunday morning after a brief illness, took place 
from St. Mary’s Catholic church at 10 o’clock yesterday morning.

Mayor Riddick, members of the Board of Control, the City Council and others 
identified with the city government attended the funeral. There was a special 
escort from the police department and members of the Elks and Hibernians attended 
in large numbers.

Solemn requiem mass was said by Rev. Father John Doherty, pastor of the church, 
with the Rev. Fathers Joseph Frioli of Newport News, J. A. Kelliher and E J. Walsh 
of Norfolk, present in the sanctuary.

There were numerous floral designs, tributes from many who held Mr. Cashin in the 
highest esteem. There was a pillow from the Elks, a harp from the Hibernians, a 
standing wreath from the Ladles’ Auxiliary of the Hibernians, a wreath on easel 
from the Fire Department, a large cross from individuals in the Police Department 
and a “Gates Ajar” from the entire police force.

The interment took place in St. Mary’s cemetery, where the usual impressive 
services of the Catholic Church took place. The pallbearers were:
Hibernians—Thomas S. Fitzgibbon and John F. Lawler.
Elks—J. E. Prince and E. J. Devine.
City Government-—Hon. J. G. Riddick, mayor, and J. C. Prince, president Board of 
Aldermen.
Citizens—John Kelly and D. J. Murphy.
