Cason, 74, of the 2900 block of Victoria Ave., died Dec. 2, 1996, in her home. A native of Norfolk, she was the widow of Preston P. Cason and was predeceased by her brother, Howard C. Perry and her parents, Howard C. and Lottie Perry. She was employed with Coopers Jewelry for several years and retired from the Norfolk Department of Public Health after 20 years. She was a member of Garrett Community Full Gospel Baptist Church, Norfolk. At Garrett she served as president of the deaconess board and was a member of the Preston P. Cason Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Pastor's Aid, the First Lady's Aid, the Emma Paul Missionary, the Helping Hand Club, the Purity Club, the Floral Club. Also she was former president of the Women's Christian Service Council and past first vice president of the National Women's Christian Service Council of America and elsewhere. Her civic and community involvements include Self-Help and Resource Exchange (SHARE), the Annie B. Mourning Tent No. 607, Phyllis Wheatley, the Women's Auxiliary of Norfolk Community Hospital, election officer for the board of elections, registrar's office, the Salvation Army and the Beautification Club of C.O.G.I.C. High Rise. Survivors include four daughters, Jean W. Johnson, Carolyn W. Brehon, Vanessa Cason-Collins, Audrey H. McCormick, all of Norfolk; eight grandchildren, Janice Johnson of Annandale, Va., Lawren Collins, Samirra James of Norfolk, Paul Johnson Jr. of Chesapeake, Craig Brehon of Hampton, Michael Johnson, Darryl Brehon and Michael McCormick of Norfolk; four great-grandchildren, Chase, Caysi and Cameron Johnson of Chesapeake, Michael Thomas of Norfolk; three sons-in-law, Paul Johnson Sr., Lawrence Collins Jr., James McCormick; a granddaughter-in-law, Adrian P. Johnson of Chesapeake; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Perry and Marion Jordan, both of Norfolk; three brothers-in-law, Leroy and Theodore Cason of Norfolk and Ernest Cason of Chesapeake; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. The homegoing service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Garrett Community Baptist Church by Dr. Johnnie L. Reid. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery . The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Friends may join the family at the residence.
