Norfolk Ledger Dispatch July 16, 1923

Mrs. Mary L. Cayton, widow of John Cayton, died yesterday afternoon at 5:20 
o'clock in a Norfolk hospital. Mrs. Cayton was 75 years old and while a native 
of New York had resided in this city for a number of years. The body will be 
taken from the funeral apartments of H.D. Oliver, Freemason Street, for funeral 
services which will be held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning in St. Catholic 
Church.

Mrs. Mary L. Cayton, widow of John Cayton, died yesterday afternoon at 5:20 
o'clock in a local hospital. The body will be taken from H.D. Oliver's Funeral 
Apartment to St. Mary's Catholic Church for the funeral services, which will be 
held at 10 o'clock tomorrow morning.
Mrs. Cayton, who was in her seventy-sixth year, was a native of New York City 
and a well known resident of Norfolk.

Mrs. Mary L. Cayton — Funeral services for Mrs. Cayton were held yesterday 
morning at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Rev. P. P. Brennan, celebrant of the 
mass. Monsignor J. T. O'Farrell preached the sermon. Mrs. James Hughes sang 
"Lead Kindly Light," accompanied by E. J. Doran. Members of St. Mary's Orphan 
Asylum attended the services in a body. The pallbearers were James E. Prince, S. 
J. O'Connor, J. J. Coleman, Thomas King, William McKenna and H. D. Oliver. 
Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
