Cecil, went to live with the Lord on September 20, 2006. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Matthew and Mary Florence Cecil; and his sister, Mildred Pendleton. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Lyda; daughter, Mary Charlene Trimyer, and husband, Hervey; son, Joseph M. Cecil, and wife, Janet; and granddaughters, Julie Williams and Ashley Williams; two sisters, Wilma Emerson, and husband, Gary, and Myrna Silcox; a nephew, Bob Hayden, and his wife, Betty; and many other beloved nieces and nephews. In 1959, Joe retired from the US Navy as a Chief Radarman. He was a veteran of World War II, in which he served in several campaigns in the Pacific, and was also a veteran of the Korean War. After the Navy, Joe went to work for Sears & Roebuck and retired in 1979 as Manager in their hardware department. Joe was a devoted Catholic and was a member of Christ the King for over 20 years before becoming a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was very active in parish life as a Eucharistic minister, usher, parish council member, Nocturnal Adoration Society and took part in the Holy Family retreat. He loved working on home projects and was always available to offer advice or a helping hand to anyone who needed it. The family is very grateful to Dr. Bill Hovland and the staff at DePaul Hospital. The family will receive friends at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, located at 6400 Newport Avenue, on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. A funeral mass celebrated by Father Joe Metzger will follow. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
