NORFOLK - Ruth Elaine Chambers passed away Nov. 2, 2005, at a hospital in
Norfolk. Ruth was born June 21, 1927, to Willie A. Chambers and Ella Ricks
Chambers in Norfolk. She was the last of 11 children. She attended Norfolk
public schools, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School. After
graduation, she gained employment with the Norfolk Public School System. She
retired from the school system after 25 years of service in the Dept. of Child
Nutrition. Ruth was a lifelong member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She was
predeceased by six sisters, Cora Chambers Delk, Lillian Chambers Mosley, Annie
Chambers Lee, Naomi Chambers Godsey, Elosie Chambers Mullen and Lucy Chambers
Harris; and four brothers, Willie Chambers, Rudolph Chambers, George Chambers
and Lawrence Chambers.

She leaves to cherish her memory a guardian and niece, the Rev. Yvonne V. Delk;
niece, Lucinda Chambers; nephew, Roberteau Harris; and a host of other nieces,
nephews, relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends at Hale Funeral Home, 2100 Ballentine Blvd.,
Norfolk, from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. The family will also receive visitors at 305
Brooke Ave., Unit 202, Norfolk. A funeral will be held by the Rev. John H.
Foster at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Shiloh Baptist Church, 745 Park Ave., Norfolk. The
body will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. The procession will leave from 2521
Rock Creek Drive, Chesapeake.
