Betty was born in Cheyenne Wyoming to Frances Radiocich and Pete Dracos. She had one sister, Peggy Munsey, who died in her early thirties. Betty was married to the late Dick Chapman on May 22, 1942, in Yuma, Arizona. Dick was a veteran of World War II. After they transferred from San Diego, California, Dick and Betty retired in Norfolk, where they raised their two daughters, Peggy and Terri. After Dick's death in 1995, Betty moved to Westminster-Canterbury on the Chesapeake Bay. Betty worked as Customer Service manager for MEX Furniture and later as an EKG technician at DePaul Hospital. Once Betty retired, she worked as a volunteer for the Virginia Beach City School System and for Boone Clinic through the Red Cross. Betty, whose early training was in dance, transferred her talents to sports. She was an avid competitor in tennis and enjoyed golf and bowling. She also played bridge regularly until her death. Everybody who knew Betty was amazed by her exceptional energy and determination to overcome her illness. In spite of her suffering, she always worried about others and looked for ways to help and comfort them. Betty is survived by daughters Peggy Walsh and Terri Baker and their husbands, Michael Walsh and Joe Pennington; two grandchildren, Courtney Walsh and Rob Walsh and his wife, Michelle; and her great- grandchildren, Braden and Haley. Betty was a loving wife, a devoted mother, a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. On behalf of Betty, her daughters would like to thank the entire staff of Enhanced Service at Westminster-Canterbury for their professional and loving care during Betty's final days. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Catholic Church of the Holy Family with Monsignor William Pitt officiating. A reception will follow the church service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Staff Christmas fund at Westminster-Canterbury, 3100 Shore Dr., Virginia Beach, VA 23451. H. D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk Chapel, is handling arrangements.
